Were You Injured Because an Elevator Malfunctioned?

People who live and work in New York City rely on elevators at their jobs and in many of their homes. You have every right to expect that those elevators have been properly designed, manufactured, installed, inspected, and maintained in order to ensure the safety of passengers. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.

At The Perecman Firm, P.L.L.C., our New York City personal injury lawyers are here to fight for you when you are injured. We help our clients seek fair compensation from property owners and elevator maintenance companies for injuries caused by trip-and-fall accidents, elevator shaft falls, and door-related accidents.

Based in Manhattan, we serve clients in the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Long Island, and Westchester. Our lead attorney, David Perecman, has more than 40 years of New York personal injury experience. Together, our attorneys have recovered more than half a billion dollars in verdicts and settlements for our clients.

Who Is Responsible for My Injuries?

The companies that manufacture elevators, the vendors that install them, the property owners, and the maintenance companies that maintain them all have a responsibility to take reasonable care in avoiding elevator accidents.

There are two major causes of elevator accidents in New York:

  • Malfunctioning elevator doors: Elevator doors are supposed to contain sensors to prevent them from closing on people’s bodies, as well as interlock devices to prevent them from opening into empty elevator shafts. When these devices malfunction or are not present, elevator passengers can suffer crush injuries or serious falls.
  • Misleveled elevators: When an elevator does not properly line up with the floor, people can trip and fall, suffering serious injuries. Misleveling is a frequent problem in older residential buildings with outdated elevator equipment and inadequate maintenance.

Elevator accidents can cause catastrophic injuries, including brain damage and spinal cord injuries. If you or a loved one has been injured due to a malfunctioning elevator, you deserve an opportunity to seek fair compensation.
