Perecman Firm Held Supply Drive to Support Puerto Rico

During the month of October, the attorneys and staff at The Perecman Firm organized a supply drive, collecting materials to assist in the disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico after making direct landfall in late September, leaving 97% of residents without power, completely destroying roads to many remote villages, knocking out cell phone towers, and creating what Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello called “a humanitarian disaster involving 3.4 million U.S. citizens.”

This struck close to home for many at The Perecman Firm, as it did for many New Yorkers, who have loved ones on Puerto Rico and close ties to the island. In coordination with the Empire State Relief and Recovery Effort, TPF staff collected cases of water, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes, diapers, portable lanterns, flashlights, and batteries to be sent to the island as distributed as needed. The collections were dropped off at the Jacob K. Javits Center, one of many donation drop off sites around the state, after which they were to be loaded up on cargo planes flown to the island. The Perecman Firm staff made a great effort to come together and give back, many hauling bags of supplies to the office via subway.

Puerto Rico’s rehabilitation still has a long road ahead of it. Below is a list of active drop off sites in the city that are still accepting donations of the items listed above.
