On Monday a pregnant woman was fatally struck when she crossed Hylan Boulevard in the middle of the block near Arden Avenue in Staten Island. The 31 year old mother of two little girls was six months pregnant with her first son and was leaving work around 11 pm when she was killed. A few hours earlier another pedestrian was fatally struck on the same stretch of road that witnesses’ state is poorly lit and known for cars speeding.
Tuesday morning a 17 year old college freshman was killed in Long Island when he was struck by a vehicle when he got out his car to inspect the damage from a minor crash he was just in with another car.
Around 5:30 pm Tuesday evening in the Richmond Hill section of Queens, a woman was killed and two others injured when a car accident caused an SUV to jump the curb and strike the pedestrians. The SUV ran a red light at Atlantic Avenue and 108th Street hitting a sedan before it flew onto the sidewalk killing a 52 year old woman and injuring a mother and her toddler.
Car accidents happen every day from minor crashes to tragic fatalities. They cause needless injury and death, and devastation. The top three causes of vehicle crashes are distracted driving, speeding and drunk driving.
