Three people killed in the Bronx when a car plows into them on Halloween

Tragedy struck a Bronx neighborhood when a car jumped the curb and plowed into a group of trick or treaters on Halloween, killing three people and injuring four others according to NBC NY.

A 10 year old girl, Nyanna Aquil, her grandfather Louis Perez, a 65 year old Vietnam War Veteran, and a young man, Kristian Leka, 24 were those who were fatally injured. A three year old girl, a nine year old girl and a 21 year old woman suffered minor injuries and were taken to Jacobi Medical Center.

Nyanna mother’s, Natalia Perez told reporters that her father died trying to save one of her other daughters when her pushed the 8 year old to safety.

The driver of the car was a 52 year old man who was taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition.

The accident happened shortly before 5:00 pm at the intersection of Morris Park and Radcliff Avenues. Witnesses state “that the car went airborne after leaving the street and came to rest in the front yard of a home after hitting the group.”

Police are investigating to determine what caused the driver to lose control of his 2011 Dodge Charger and plunge into the crowd of trick or treaters. Police are examining whether a medical problem such as a seizure may have been involved ABC NY.

On Sunday night, family and friends gathered for a candle vigil to mourn the death of the three people killed in Saturday’s horrible accident.
