Usually, the roads are safe enough. Millions of people drive to and from wherever they need to be, every day, without incident. Every so often, however, we encounter those who do not observe the laws, driving far above the speed limit, or driving under the influence of alcohol, or simply failing to observe the signs and signals that help direct traffic safely. These encounters often result in crashes, complete with the physical and emotional trauma such events bring.
Eleven people were injured, one of them an infant, in a three-car accident on Staten Island, according to authorities.
A statement from fire officials says a car, a minivan, and a third vehicle crashed not far from Gansevoort Boulevard and Harold Street just before 8 in the morning.
The infant was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. The other ten victims mostly suffered only minor injuries, which were treated at local hospitals, according to authorities.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident.
