Paris Hilton's Brother Conrad Hilton Injured in Auto Accident

Paris Hilton's Brother Conrad Hilton Injured in Auto Accident

Conrad Hilton, 19, was injured when he lost control of his BMW and crashed on a highway near Palm Springs, California. His condition was unreported by USA Today (8.26.14). TMZ (8.26.14) said that Hilton suffered cuts, bruises, and a fracture in his hand, but no major injuries. Conrad is the brother of Paris Hilton.

Apparently, Hilton was speeding when he tried to change lanes and hit a Volkswagen. He then lost control of his car and crashed into a tractor trailer. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) had received reports about a reckless driver before the crash occurred, said USA Today.

Conrad was lucky. Many times speeding car accidents result in serious injuries and wrongful death. Drivers, men and women, aged 16 to 19 years of age have the highest average annual crash and traffic violation rates of any other age group. One crash risk factor for teenage drivers is risk taking. Speeding is considered to be one of the most common risky behaviors. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, 52.7% of traffic citations received by teenage drivers were for speeding.

Teenagers should think twice before speeding. Motor vehicle crashes are the top cause of death among 15 to 20-year-olds. In 2008, 5864 drivers in this age group were involved in fatal crashes. These motor vehicle crashes resulted in 2739 dead 15 to 20-year-old drivers and an additional 228,000 injured drivers.

Speeding is a conscious decision made by a driver of any age. It is considered a reckless and negligent act because the driver is doing something that he or she should not be doing. Speeding is also an act that can cause accidents, injuries and deaths. In many states, including New York, a driver who operates a vehicle recklessly or in a grossly negligent manner and unintentionally kills another is guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Individuals who are injured because of a driver’s careless speeding, may be eligible for compensation that can help cover medical expenses, lost wages, property damage and other losses.

According to the National highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speeding was a contributing factor in 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in 2012. An average of 850 Americans are killed every month in speed-related crashes.

Firefighters needed the jaws of life to pull Hilton from his car. Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the accident, reported USA Today. A CHP helicopter crew witnessed the collision.
