9 Injured When SUV Crashes Through New England Thruway Wall

Single vehicle crashes aren’t common. Often the circumstances surrounding an incident and how they happened are difficult to understand. Usually excessive speed is involved, or the driver was confronted by unexpected situation on the road, or lost control of the vehicle. Alcohol or drugs are also a common element in this type of collision.

It was a single vehicle crash on Friday, April 25th that left nine people injured and the driver fighting for his life. The incident occurred at 5 a.m. when a 2013 black Cadillac Escalade SUV that was heading northbound at an excessive rate of speed when it jumped the center median before exiting the Thurway at Conner St near Co-Op. The vehicle smashed into a road dividing wall.

The driver, a 28-year-old unidentified man from the South Bronx, is in critical condition. No further information has been made available. Friends of the driver have stated to the media that he may not survive his injuries. According to information released by the police, there were 9 passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash and all suffered serious injuries. Two of the vehicle’s occupants are listed in critical condition. Ages of those in the SUV ranged from 24 to 36. The owner of the SUV, a 32-year-old man with a suspended driver’s license from Valley Cottage, N.Y., was not in the Cadillac when it crashed. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

It’s the role of law enforcement to determine the cause of single vehicle crashes. Typically in a vehicle crowded with several occupants occur when the driver’s attention strays from the road, or there’s some type of disruption inside the car. Those injured will find it necessary to work with insurance companies in order to deal with the medical costs associated with traumatic injury. Such costs have a way of continuing long past the point when an individual is released from the hospital. Continued costs in follow up procedures, visiting physical therapists, having a care worker, and recovery from emotional trauma can add up over time.
