New York workers comp lawyer can facilitate claim filing, appeal
A 52-year-old worker was installing a traffic signal May 9 in Rye Brook, New York, when a passing tractor-trailer hit the bucket of his lift truck. The impact left the worker hanging from the traffic light.
When the safety connection gave way, the worker was sent crashing to the top of the passing tractor-trailer. He rolled off the truck and fell face-first to the ground.
The worker was reported to be in good condition with a broken elbow, broken nose and a number of broken ribs.
Police notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) about the worker’s injury, the Rye Patch reported. The worker was an employee for Verde Electric.
What to do as a worker injured on the job in New York
Many workers are not sure what to do after an accident that injures them on the job.
One of the first things a worker should do after an injury is notify their employer. The worker should also obtain medical treatment. Then comes the process of applying for workers’ compensation benefits.
Under the New York State workers’ compensation system, injured workers are entitled to medical care and weekly benefits for work-related injuries.
While workers are not required to have a lawyer to file for workers’ compensation, it is in an injured worker’s best interests to have one. The New York State Worker’s Compensation Board has strict guidelines regarding what injured workers must do or show in order to receive workers’ compensation. If a worker fails to meet the standards of the Board, a claim could be denied. A New York workers comp lawyer knows what steps to take to make sure a claim is filed correctly and can help a worker receive full benefits for the workplace accident.
