"One of the best decisions I had ever made"

More than 70 people were injured after a Seastreak commuter ferry crashed into a pier while docking. The crash happened at the South Street Seaport during the morning rush hour. Given the description of the accident, it is incredibly lucky no one died, said New York personal injury lawyer David Perecman.
According to CNN, passengers were tossed “like rag dolls” after the crowded ferry hit the pier at a high rate of speed. The impact ripped open the boat’s hull.
Two people were listed in critical condition following the ferry accident, but only one person’s condition remained critical by the evening, said CNN.
The boat was likely going too fast, said CNN.
Onboard the vessel were 326 passengers and five crew members.
People who were injured in the ferry accident should speak with a lawyer as soon as possible. Whether the injury was due to a mechanical issue or negligence, seriously injured passengers may have the right to recover damages for medical bills, lost wages and other related expenses.
“Determining who is responsible for a ferry accident depends on what is found to be the cause of the accident,” said Perecman.
The accident could have occurred because the pilot was driving at excessive speeds or had fallen asleep. Other, more common reasons ferry accidents occur include improper maintenance, equipment failure, weather conditions or an inexperienced driver.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the accident.
“A lawyer can help an injured victim get deserved compensation from the parties responsible for the injuries,” said Perecman.
