New York Ice Storm Leaves Dangerous Conditions for Pedestrians and Motorists

The ice storm that hit New York on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 has left treacherous conditions that have caused serious problems for commuters including many accidents. CBS New York reported that travel conditions will continue to be extremely dangerous with many roads being covered by ice and slush.

According to AccuWeather, the temperature will drop Wednesday night and the wet areas could freeze again. The MTA is facing weather-related delays for some trains. For many people, traveling today was a nightmare. Pedestrians were trying to avoid slipping and falling while drivers tried to avoid getting into auto accidents.

According to CBS New York, the ice storm has caused more than 500 Long Island schools or organizations to close or issue delayed openings. Metro-North is experiencing delays because of stalled trains. The Long Island Rail Road is running on a weekend schedule because of the ice storm. People traveling by plane should check with their airlines, as JFK and LaGuardia airports both reported delays. New York personal injury lawyers are advising people to take extra caution when traveling in these conditions.
