NEW YORK, NEW YORK-September 14, 2009 - New York auto accident attorneys were quick to react after a nine-year old boy was killed on Saturday by a car while he was walking in his Brooklyn neighborhood. The driver of the vehicle, Novella Bilkerdyk, had a suspended drivers license and $5,000 in outstanding DMV fines past.

"This is a sad reminder that fatal accidents can occur even close to home," said David Perecman, a New York auto accident attorney.

Joshua Ganzfried was only a block away from his home when he was struck and dragged a few feet by the car after flying over the hood, according to police. Paramedics rushed the boy to Brooklyn Hospital where he died a short time after the accident.

Neighbors and Brooklyn accident attorneys have frequently commented that the intersection where the accident took place is particularly dangerous.

"When weighing the cost of human life against the cost of a stop sign, the value in the purchase should be obvious to any official in New York. Auto accident attorneys are certainly paying attention," said Perecman. However, the issue for the City is whether enough accidents have happened in the intersection to warrant a change in the traffic control plan. If so the City could be subject to suit also.

An investigation into the fatal incident is underway.
