Six members of FDNY Ladder Company 4 will be awarded with medals for their courageous work rescuing 16 people from the debris of the Midtown crane collapse last spring, Newsday reports.
The firefighters pulled survivors from the rubble of the March 15, 2008 construction accident that killed six construction workers and one other bystander. The World Trade Center Memorial medals will be presented to the firefighters today at a ceremony at City Hall which will honor other emergency response workers as well.
I am sure every New York City construction accident attorney will join me in congratulating these emergency workers. They routinely rush into situations that most people would do anything to get out of. Their valor and expertise saves thousands of New Yorkers' lives every year. We can only applaud their efforts.
New York construction accident lawyers, by definition, spend much time focusing on the many negative aspects of construction accidents - the harm they cause, the people at fault, the inadequate laws that protect workers. It is proper that they spend at least a few moments reflecting on the one bright spot of these terrible tragedies: the heroism of those individuals who respond to the accidents.
