Housing Crisis Triggers New Casualties

Thursday, 31 January 2008

January, 31 2008 - New York, NY - Severe cutbacks in new housing construction in New York City, and pressure on builders to finish projects faster than usual is causing a dramatic increase in worker injuries at construction sites, according to David Perecman, Esq., Founder of the Perceman Firm, veteran personal injury attorney in New York City.

"We are seeing a significant increase in complaints by workers who have been badly injured as a result of lax safety standards at construction sites throughout the city," said Perecman.

Construction safety needs to become the forefront of changes in New York otherwise more people will be hurt and possibly dead. According to a recent Associated Press story published in January, New York construction injuries have "more than doubled" since last year. Some are stating that builders are being pressured by the public to finish projects faster which are a leading cause in construction safety. There have been all types of construction injuries including several deaths among the new building around Manhattan. Most recently, Donald Trump's SoHo hotel-condominium was in the news for a 53-year-old's fall 40 stories off the building to his demise.

"The builders are not doing enough in New York to prevent construction injuries, it's all about increasing their profit at any expense," said David Perecman. "These workers are helping to build our city and keep it the greatest city in the world. There is no reason New York construction workers injuries should be on the rise, new materials should be helping to decrease all types of construction injuries and deaths."

Construction safety becomes an issue, not only for the construction worker, but for the people who are walking below. Bystanders need to start to be more aware of their surrounds and look out for building material that can fall off buildings.
