In a story that will seem sadly familiar to many seasoned New York auto accident lawyers, a Brooklyn man lost his leg yesterday after an out-of-control livery cab crashed into him as he was securing his child in his car seat, the New York Post reports.
The man, Gary Louis, and his girlfriend, Maya Priest, had just finished strapping their 2-year-old into his car seat when the livery cab, swerving to avoid another vehicle backing out of a driveway, smashed into the side of Mr. Louis's car.
A neighbor, Rebecca Nababi, told the Post, "I saw the cab swerve and the next thing you know his leg was down the street. He was on the ground totally quiet."
Neighbors responded to the scene, putting the severed leg on ice and helping get it and Mr. Louis to Bellevue Hospital. Early this morning doctors were still working to reattach the leg.
New York City auto accident lawyers are aware that no matter how mindful the pedestrian, some car accidents happen so quickly that there is no time for someone on foot to react. Now, because of a split-second accident, Mr. Louis faces months or even years of painful rehabilitation, even if doctors do manage to save his leg.
After an accident, people in Mr. Louis's situation often need help securing and paying for the medical attention they need to make a full recovery. They need help paying for repairs to their cars or the purchase of a new car. The best New York auto accident lawyers can help these people get what they need as quickly and easily as possible so they can move past their car accidents and get on with their lives.
