On Saturday, November 4, 2009, a chunk of metal fell off a Tokyo-bound jumbo jet and landed in a Long Island family's driveway. The piece that fell was identified as a 3-by-4-foot engine tail cone from a Delta Airlines 777.

The cone fell off shortly after the plane's takeoff from JFK Airport, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. The pilots didn't even realize the cone had fallen off the plane until it landed at Tokyo's Narita International Airport. A routine inspection revealed that the part had gone missing.
